40 years of the democratic process thrown into the void – El Sol de México

Many people have forgotten what it was like to live under a single-party, hegemonic regime that controlled everything; the election results, of course. Voters were told at the polling station to vote for the flag; the head of the family would arrive with all of his family’s voting cards to vote for the flag; the mobilization of carousels of voters in various polling stations or the stuffing of ballot boxes was common.

The President decided everything, because he controlled everything. In 2018, this government marked a regression and, unfortunately, the voters empowered him again, but they did not give him 75% of the votes, but 54%.

What a paradox, Claudia Sheinbaum will be President after 106 years of the validity of the Political Constitution and 70 years of recognizing women’s right to vote and to be voted for. But she will be for the party whose main leader will turn her party into a hegemonic entity that, with a single blow, in the last month of her government, will overthrow all the changes in transparency and legality, including an independent Judiciary.

Today, the chambers of Congress dominated by Lopez Obradorism will make it easier for López Obrador to use his last month of government to turn the country, the peso, and the economy upside down. The first female President will be faced with a mess, a broken economy, and neighbors who threaten to stop being our partners.

Although there was a vote whose origins I will not dwell on, that qualified vote that you hold today was achieved with the help of the institutions created in this process of freedoms: the National Electoral Institute, and the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation. What a paradox.

When the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation was established in 1996, all political electoral matters were under its scrutiny. The top of this Tribunal was regrettable; five people, of whom only one, Judge Janine Otálora, warned that the Constitution had not been interpreted as was their duty, to avoid institutional imbalances. Morena and its partners with illegitimate qualified voting will eliminate the Judicial Branch, their own power.

Each reform achieved did not occur in a smooth process; the resistance of the hegemonic party to losing its absolute power was constant. The purchase of opposition legislators has also been present. The history of parliamentarism shows gradual negotiations to advance in the reconstruction of a country mired in social inequality and caciquism, in achieving laws that influence better democracy and protection of rights.

In the Superior Court of the TEPJF they know it. They have written texts that educate law students, those students who today mobilize to tell them that they are responsible for the fact that two Powers of the Union disappear the third and support the strike of workers of the Judicial Branch,

With a stroke of the pen, they will make the 21st century disappear, forgetting the national tragedy of having presidents who beat up doctors, railroad workers, students, opponents, and provoked a dirty war whose disappeared people continue to be. The entire transition has been thrown into the void and the bottom line is not visible.

What were those who decided to give that coalition a qualified vote to remove from the Constitution all the precepts that limit autocracy thinking?
