Almost a week away, Canada counts Ecuador’s intrusion into the Mexican Embassy in Quito – El Sol de México

The Canadian government condemned this Thursday the entry of Ecuadorian security forces into the Mexican embassy in Quito and asked the two countries to “dialogue” to resolve the conflict.

The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it has been able to “review in detail the videos of the unauthorized entry of Ecuadorian authorities into the Mexican embassy in Quito on April 5” and concluded that “it was a clear violation of the Vienna Convention”, which establishes that embassies are inviolable.

“Canada condemns all violations of the Vienna Convention and international law and reaffirms its disappointment that Ecuador has done so in this case,” added the Canadian Government before asking the two countries for dialogue “to resolve their differences.” .

This Thursday, Mexico filed a complaint against Ecuador before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) demanding that the South American country be suspended from the UN until its authorities apologize for the break-in at the Mexican embassy.

Ecuadorian security forces stormed the Mexican legation to capture former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas, who is on trial for corruption and had requested diplomatic asylum.

Ecuador accuses Mexico of violating international treaties on asylum for sheltering a person prosecuted for corruption.
