AMLO’s electoral reform will be scrapped and work will be done on Sheinbaum’s: Monreal – El Sol de México

The electoral reform sent by President Andrés Manuel López Obradorin the month of February of this year, within the 20 initiatives, will be discarded and the deputies of the LXVI will work on another one that the president sends Claudia Sheinbaum starting October 1st.

This is how he explained it Ricardo Monreal Avilain a press conference at the end of the plenary meeting of Morena, where he said that “the President of the Republic, on February 5, sent a package of 20 reforms; 19 constitutional and one legal reform. 18 were approved, with the exception of the electoral one.

The president-elect has considered that electoral reform requires further analysis and reflection. because we have to complete it properly. It doesn’t mean that it won’t be done, but we will wait for a better time.

“The fact that it is not discussed in this period, until August 29, means that, automatically, This initiative on electoral reform is discarded“This will have to be the subject of a new initiative in the next session,” said the elected Morena deputy.

Before the media, the president-elect was also questioned on the subject and stated that of the 20 reforms that the President sent, there is the electoral one, which It is the only one that the Constitutional Affairs Committee did not rule on.

“So, in reality there are 19. The electoral reform would be for a later reconsideration because, perhaps Ricardo can explain it.”

“There is a defined time for the Legislature to rule on reforms sent by the President of the Republic, and that time, now, let’s say, has been fulfilled by the Commission. So, they ruled on 18 constitutional and one legal reform; and the electoral reform is still pending,” said Claudia Sheinbaum.

He mentioned that after the House of Representatives, it must go to the Senate and, as for constitutional reforms, there must also be approval from local Congresses.

She stated that when she enters on October 1st she will be sending what corresponds to her as Constitutional President, but she clarified “We are not proposing an initiative at this time.It will be our turn starting October 1st.

“Remember that I proposed constitutional reforms that have to do with women’s rights and equality in Article 4, which will be among the first that we will be sending; non-reelection, new welfare programs, which should also be in the Constitution, and we will be working on electoral reform.”

“Now look, If the electoral reform presented by the President had been approved, there would have been no plurinominalsso much so that they criticized Morena or the President of the Republic for our proposal that there should be no pluris. But we would already be presenting it as an initiative of the Constitutional President,” said the president-elect.

Regarding the session on September 1, Ricardo Monreal mentioned that the judicial reform will not be approved on that day.

“So, even though a second session may take place on September 1, it does not mean that the reform of the Judicial Branch will be approved on that day. I have read some columns and articles and interviews that say that we will approve it on that day, no.

“This means that the entire legislative process can begin on that day in a different session and we will set deadlines for publicity, deliberation, general discussion, and specific discussion to broaden the debate so that all Mexicans know what we are approving. This is the suggestion of President Claudia Sheinbaum,” she said.
