Between legs and curtains | C Poker – El Sol de México

A very Mexican equation: what do Comala, Food, Quality and Consistency have in common? The answer is another C: Conchi, yes Conchi León.

Although his name began to sound loud approximately 20 years ago after the premiere of his work Mestiza powerit is in the last decade that it has been consolidated and today its presence is a reference on the scene of our country.

Born in Yucatán, Conchi is an actress, director and playwright committed to theater and social causes, as shown by her extensive work in theatrical pedagogy projects for children with different abilities, street children, juvenile offenders and theater as a medium. of social readaptation.

His works have been presented in Argentina, Peru, the United States, Chile, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Spain, the Philippines and of course throughout the country.

Quality and consistency are evident. and the other C’s?

Let’s go in parts: Comala, Comalawas born from an original idea by Alejandro Bracho and Alonso Teruel -founders of Pulpo Arts-, and is a musical version of one of the pillars of Mexican literature: Pedro Paramoby Juan Rulfo.

Starting from Rulfo’s novel and the Mexicanness of its central character, the creative team took on the task of developing an experience that moves between the theatrical, the immersive and the experimental.

And this is where Conchi appears, who is the playwright of this production. Great work by this author, who in less than 90 minutes presents the plot of the Jalisco author, maintaining its spirit.

Evidently, Conchi’s work is intertwined with that of an entire team of creators, such as the composer and lyricist Pablo Chemor, and the musicians and actors Aída López, Melisa Castellanos, Pablo Chemor, Susi Estrada, Nicolás García Lieberman, Stephano Morales, María Penella and Alonso Teruel.

For now, Comala, Comala It had a very brief season of only four days, which today concludes in the new LagoAlgo cultural space, formerly Restaurante del Lago, in the heart of Chapultepec.

And the other C, food, also comes to an end today, Sunday.

It’s about the work Rosystarring Conchi, and which is a true delight, not only because it is about food, but because of the quality of each of the ingredients that go into it.

Written by the Brazilian Cecilia Ripoll and directed by Alejandro Velis, this production is about a woman like many others, who has two jobs to support herself and her young daughter: during the week she is in charge of the cafeteria at a public school, and On weekends she is a cook in the house of a rich family.

The stories intertwine when his daughter makes him see that “in one place there is more than what is missing in the other.” And there begins the work of a modern Robin Hood.

Fun, moving, revealing, critical… that’s what this staging is like, which is also a little gem with wonderful scenery (Patricia Gutiérrez), lighting (Víctor Zapatero), and costumes (Anabel Ortega).

And above all, a first-class acting job. In addition to Conchi there are the wonderful Teté Espinoza, Antón Araiza, Muriel Ricard, Juan Cabello and Rommani Villicaña. All first class.

Congratulations to Nocturno Teatro, the producer of this production that concludes today at the Lucerna Forum.
