The Confederation of Industrial Chambers of the United Mexican States (Concamin) stated that the Reform of the Judiciary does not offer tangible benefits to Mexicans.
In a statement, the business organization explained that the initiative, already approved by the Chamber of Deputies, puts the impartiality and autonomy of justice at risk and that this could compromise the country’s economic growth.
“It is essential that the judiciary remains an independent body, free from any political influence that could compromise its essential function of administering justice,” said Concamin.
The organization mentioned that any reform must prioritize professionalization and autonomy of the judiciarywithout compromising the democratic principles that ensure access to impartial justice.
He explained that the legal uncertainty generated by The reform affects the confidence of foreign investorswho are looking for a stable and predictable environment for their projects.
“Any weakening of the rule of law could seriously jeopardize investment opportunities and, with it, economic growth and job creation in Mexico,” he added.
The Concaminwhich represents more than 125 industrial chambers throughout the country, called on the Senate of the Republic to thoroughly analyze the Reform, taking into account the opinions of specialists and society.
“Various actors in society; students, civil organizations, business organizations have expressed their rejection, while foreign diplomatic and commercial representations have expressed their concern about this reform, and it is necessary that their arguments be taken into account.”

Finally, he explained that the division of powers is essential for a solid democracy, guaranteeing the balance between the Executive, Legislative and Judicial powersavoiding excessive concentration of power and ensuring the independent fulfillment of their responsibilities.
