Civic Front threatens to take over Congress if Morena approves judicial reform on a fast track – El Sol de México

Guadalupe Acosta Naranjo, one of the spokespersons for the National Civic Front, warned that if Morena approves the reform to the Judicial Branch on a fast track basis, he will call on citizens to take over the Senate of the Republic to prevent the initiative from moving forward.

“We call on Morena to follow and respect the parliamentary process (…) If they do not do so, if they make a series of fast-track approvals, violating the entire parliamentary process, then we will call for the mobilization of September 8 to be brought forward,” he said in a video posted on his social media.

“We ask them to be vigilant in order to take over the Senate of the Republic and prevent this Chamber from being established and the reforms from being approved there,” he added.

The former federal deputy also threatened to take over the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro in the last days of September to prevent Claudia Sheinbaum from taking the oath of office as President of the Republic, in case the official bloc in Congress approves constitutional reforms on a fast track basis.

“If they do that, we will call, I hope we get a response from all the organizations, to take over San Lázaro before the end of September to prevent Claudia Sheinbaum from taking office.”

“We cannot continue to act passively in the face of such serious violations of the constitutional and democratic regime. That is why we say it clearly: if they do not respect the parliamentary process, we will call for the seizure of the Senate before September 8, and we will call for the seizure of San Lázaro, the facilities of the Chamber of Deputies, so that Claudia Sheinbaum cannot be sworn in there,” he warned.

According to Ricardo Monreal, the next coordinator of the Morena party in the Chamber of Deputies, the judicial reform initiative could be approved during the first week of September in the Chamber of Deputies.

The LXVI Legislature is expected to convene on Sunday, September 1, and in a second extraordinary session, the legislative process will begin to begin the discussion of judicial reform, one of the 18 constitutional reform initiatives that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sent on February 5.
