For the first time in the history of our nation, a woman will be president. With her, we all make it. It may seem incredible, but in a country with 126 million people, in Mexico there are 67 million women, which represents 52% of the total population, yet none had ever headed the federal government.
The struggle was not easy, from the tenacity of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz or the democratic struggle of Hermila Galindo, through the struggle of my fellow Zacatecans who in 1824 sent a letter to the Constituent Assembly asking for the right to vote, to Elvia Carrillo Puerto and without forgetting Rosario Ibarra, the first candidate for the presidency. With Claudia, we all made it.
Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo upholds the principles of the Fourth Transformation, but also of millions of women in struggle who seek full recognition of our rights and freedoms. We Mexican women are resistance, rebellion and struggle. We have always sought the good of our families, of ourselves and of our society.
Therefore, I am certain that Mexico is entering a prosperous era of development, equality, and benefit not only for women but for all groups in vulnerable situations. With Claudia Sheinbaum, an outstanding scientist, professor, social activist, and solid track record in politics, we have the hope that she will govern with empathy, sensitivity, honesty, and courage; Mexican humanism will transcend all spheres of the country’s public life. She will be called president, because it is time for women, for women of the left.
A crucial stage for the country is coming, the challenges have been agreed upon: to compensate women aged 60 to 64 who have dedicated their lives to caring for their families; minimum wage for full-time primary education teachers; scholarship system for all educational levels (pre-school, primary and secondary); reform of the Judiciary as well as guaranteeing the human right to water.
This government will make the second floor of the Fourth Transformation a reality. The people went out to vote, there were nearly 36 million who supported this project and it cannot be disappointed. To repeat the words of Andrés Manuel López Obrador referring to Claudia Sheinbaum “in addition to her experience and ability, she is a woman with a lot of talent, and she will count on the people of Mexico.”
