Coca Cola bottling plant evacuated in Morelia due to ammonia leak – El Sol de México

On Tuesday afternoon, an ammonia leak was recorded at the facilities of a Coca-Cola bottling plant in Morelia, Michoacán.

The leak occurred at the company located on La Huerta highway, in the northwest of the capital of Michoacan.

In an interview for El Sol de Morelia, the coordinator of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Morelia, Francisco Xavier Lara, He said that they supported the cleaning efforts and had to evacuate the company’s staff, in addition to providing assistance to citizens who were near the facilities.

Francisco Xavier Lara explained that The chemical escaped from a tanker that was circulating on the road previously mentioned, which caused the spill of at least 100 linear meters, so all the inhabitants of the area had to be evacuated to avoid any risk situation.

The official also said that the soft drink company and the company in charge of the tanker are changing the liquid, so the facilities in the area were protected by the corporation in charge, as well as by the Morelia Police.

Civil Protection also made some recommendations to the company so that it can make adjustments and avoid such incidents in the future.
