CPKC will deliver plan to reactivate passenger trains before January 15 – El Sol de México

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) analyzes the decree published by the federal government for the reactivation of passenger trains in the country and plans to deliver a project before January 15.

“We are already working on the analysis regarding the publication of the decree. What we are going to present in January is our willingness to work together with the government and identify the benefits of this activity and the projects that are needed, what studies should be done and what the phases in which they can be done will be,” said the manager.

He last November 20, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) a decree that declares the provision of public rail passenger transport service a priority area for national development, where seven routes stand out. Del Cueto recalled that in Mexico CPKC focuses on providing cargo transportation service, however, the company has sufficient experience in passenger transportation in North America.

We have sections where we operate some passenger routes with Amtrak, TransCanada or VIA Railso we have some experiences, not in Mexico, but in the United States and Canada,” he noted.

In that sense, The CEO expressed his willingness to work with the government to carry out the freight train project. He remembered that CPKC is working on the preparation of a study to determine the feasibility and cost of the route Mexico – Querétaro. Last week, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) reported on an agreement with the company and the government of New Lion to develop a passenger train that connects the metropolitan area of ​​Monterrey with the Pesquería municipality, in the northern state.

“The necessary studies cost approximately 1.5 million dollars, and building a kilometer of train track costs about a million dollars, and the project speaks of 75 kilometers”.

The manager pointed out that CPKC’s participation in said railway project will be to provide the facilities for the government of Nuevo León, or the company it contracts, to carry out the technical studiesgiven that The train will be made on a concessioned track to the company; as well as issuing comments prior to a ruling.
