Damages caused by rain and flooding are being addressed in Ecatepec – El Sol de México

After the floods in the municipality of Ecatepec derived from the storm registered during the afternoon-evening of this Sunday in several points of the State of Mexico, elements of the municipal government, Civil Protection and affected neighbors began the cleaning work.

Through social media, the municipal president of Ecatepec, Jesús Palacios Alvarado, reported that the works were concentrated in four points in the municipality: Tejocote and the residential park, Las Venitas, San Cristóbal Centro and Nuevo Laredo.

The affectations The main damage was caused by the current dragging mud, branches and garbage after heavy rains, which caused several homes and businesses to flood, and even some walls to collapse.

The director of Civil Protection and Firefighters of Ecatepec, Jesús Miranda Cárdenas, reported that there were about 80 homes affected in San Cristóbal, located in the border area with Coacalco. In addition, he noted that the majority disaster occurred in the Tejocote colonywhere homes and cars on several streets were flooded with mud.

Miranda explained that most of the damage was caused by the mud overflowand so far there are no reports of any injuries.

However, several families were trapped in their homes after the storm due to the large amount of mud that blocked access to their homes.

During the early hours of Monday morning, the trapped families were freed after rescue work by emergency services. They also began removing debris and mud with the participation of around 400 elements, including members of the National Army, Firefighters and Civil Protection personnel.

As a result of the cleanup work, the Ecatepec City Council announced the cancellation of the civic parade commemorating the anniversary of Mexico’s Independence, which was to be held in the first square of San Cristóbal Centro.
