Ecobici expands to Álvaro Obregón and Azcapotzalco with 18 cycle stations – El Sol de México

Ecobike began operations in neighborhoods of the municipalities Azcapotzalco and Álvaro Obregónin Mexico City, as part of the renewal and expansion of the transportation system public bicycles.

The consortium that operates EcobikeBKT and 5M2, began work on July 26, 2022, after the departure of the company Clear Channel, which was in charge of the system for more than 10 years.

The plan consists of the replacement and expansion of 687 cycle stations and more than nine thousand bicyclesas well as the start of operations in the mayor’s offices Azcapotzalco, Álvaro Obregón and Coyoacánsince it operated only in Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo.

The Mobility Secretariat (Semovi) of Mexico City reported that this Tuesday Ecobici began operations in eight neighborhoods in the Azcapotzalco and Álvaro Obregón municipalities, which already have 18 cycle stations.

“Thanks to the renovation and expansion work of the Ecobici system undertaken in this administration, inhabitants of eight neighborhoods in these two districts already have 18 new cycle stations,” Semovi reported.

The benefited colonies in Álvaro Obregón are Florida and Axotlawhile in Azcapotzalco they are Home and Security, Nueva Santa María, Clavería, Obrero Popular, San Salvador Xochimanca and Ángel Zimbrón.

To date, the consortium has installed 579 cycle stations of the 687 it aims for, and assured that it will complete the renovation work in the coming weeks.

“With the renovation and expansion of Ecobici, there are currently 579 cycle stations installed. The work will continue during the coming weeks in order to have 687 stations and a total of 9,300 bicycles,” said the Ministry of Mobility.
