Economy stagnates in August and grows 1.1%, according to Inegi – El Sol de México

The Economic activity in August registered a rise of 1.1 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

According to the ITimely Indicator of Economic Activity (IOAE)The boost came mainly from tertiary activities, related to commerce, services and tourism, growing 1.5 percent annually.

Regarding secondary or industrial activities, Inegi indicated that there was an increase of just 0.7 percent compared to the same month in 2023.

If the organization’s projections are confirmed, the economic activity in Mexico would accumulate three consecutive months growing at a rate of 1.1 percent per year.

Financial specialists have warned since the beginning of the year that the Mexican economy was weakened by low levels of investment, high inflation, among other variables that could complicate medium-term growth.

In its monthly comparison, economic activity in August registered a slight increase of 0.3 percent, also driven by the tertiary sector, which had an increase of 0.4 percent, according to Inegi.
