Construction began in July 2015 and, according to the first contract, the works would last a year and a half, which did not happen. The justification was that there was not enough budget for the construction site.

Eight months later, the Department of Public Works and the Metro They announced that in April 2016 they would begin the work and that it would be completed in 2018, but before finishing his term, the then head of Government, Miguel Angel Mancera, said that the expansion would remain unfinished. In December of that year the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Claudia Sheinbaum, former local leader, committed to finishing the work in 2021.

At the most recent session of the Committee on Works of Mexico Citythe General Directorate of Works for Transport iThe “temporary partial suspension” of contract DGOT-LPN-F-1-028-19, consisting of the installation of track on the Mixcoac-Observatorio section, work that is 54.6 percent complete, was reported.

This is added to the agreement DGOT-LPN-F-5-016-19, for the supervision of the implementation project, supply of materials, construction, equipment, installation, integration and tests for the assembly of the track. The assembly was already at 71.3 percent.

Two other suspended contracts that were almost ready are: IISGCONV-016-2016 and IISGCONV-017-2016, signed with UNAM, for technical advice on structural aspects.

Meanwhile, there is contracts that are still active, but that modified their end date to remain valid. This is document DGOT-IR-F-5-045-2022, for the supervision of the civil works and complementary works that should have been completed in April of this year. Another contract is DGOT-IR-F-1-044-2022, whose execution should have been completed in March 2024, and which consists of the construction of civil works in the tail of Mixcoac towards the new Valentín Campa station. At the time of going to press, the Secretariat of Public Works had not issued any comments.
