Fernando Cuautle, nominated for an Ariel for Heroico, reflects on the irony of being an actor in Mexico – El Sol de México

Despite being recognized as one of the best actors of today, nominated for an Ariel Award in the category of Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film “Heroico,” Fernando Cuautle sees his reality as “bittersweet,” as he claims to have limited job opportunities.

“I receive the nomination with great gratitude for the path that one travels as an actor, which is quite hard, like all professions, but being in this industry is very complex,” he commented in an interview with The Sun of Mexico.

“It’s a bittersweet celebration. The bitter part is that it’s been a complicated year and I say ‘what ironies of life to be nominated and suddenly the work is coming in dribs and drabs!’” added the 29-year-old actor, who adds another nomination at the Ariels, since in the 2021 edition he was also considered Best Actor for his role in the film “Nuevo Orden.”

With “Heroico,” Cuautle says, he added his work to that of a film whose plot has set a precedent for social change due to the plot it addresses, referring to the physical and psychological violence that the cadets experience at the Heroic Military College.

“When the film came out, there were problems with the Sedena because of this complaint. I think it did have an impact on society,” he said.

Regarding social criticism, the actor spoke about his leading role in “Rats,” Carlos Trujano’s first film, which is expected to be released later this year. “It is about a character who, wanting to break the system, becomes what he swore to destroy. After money is stolen from him, he tries to take justice into his own hands, but ends up becoming what he says is wrong,” he mentioned.

CHANGE THE FACE

Among the opportunities that the film industry has given him lately, is “Alvarado Espectacular”, a comedy film whose name is not yet final, directed by Carlos Santos, director of “Señora Influencer”.

“It’s also good to make other types of films,” said the actor who will share the credits with stand-up comedian Daniel Sosa, who stars in his new project.

“It was a huge challenge, because making people laugh is a very serious thing. Daniel Sosa and I had incredible chemistry. I learned a lot about comedy,” said Cuautle, who after participating in Televisa unit programs, has made an important leap to the big screen.

“My goals have changed many times and I think that happens to everyone, as we move forward, we naturally want other things,” said the actor.

“First I wanted to do television, I did some one-off episodes in programs and then my interests changed. Television gave me something and cinema gave me everything, it gave me my life, so I value it a lot,” he concluded.
