Flavors of Yucatan: Spaniard Dabiz Muñoz is named Best Chef in the World – El Sol de México

Mérida.- Among a list of more than 100 nominees, Spanish chef Dabiz Muñoz is named the Best Chef in the World in the 2023 edition of The Best Chef held in Mérida, Yucatán, as part of the Sabores de Yucatán activities.

“I want to dedicate this recognition to my teachers who have been part of my training for all these years, and who belong to the region where I was born,” said Muñoz during the awards ceremony held at the Mérida Convention Center.

The winner recognized the work of his contenders for the award, which was divided into different categories, among which the Mexicans Roberto Solis and William Alonzo stood out in the Local Award category; chef Karime López in Food Art, among other important recognitions such as Legend which went to the multi-award-winning Spanish chef Ferran Adriá.

The latter gave an emotional speech to those present: “Since the creation of the Bulli Foundation we have spread an important message for the new generations based on some basic principles: enjoy the passion of doing what you like and whatever you want. “, value the past and traditions of the place where you are and something very important: never forget to be grateful for everything you have and always thank your work team that helps give rise to your creations.”

For her part, the Secretary of Tourism of Yucatán, Michelle Fridman, thanked the presence of the international union that gathered at this headquarters in which more than 100 leaders of the culinary industry from different parts of the world participated “who were not part of a project but rather an entire experience related to the tradition, history and culture of this state that preserves its essence from its traditional cooks and its people.
