Hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas: how they will free the hostages – El Sol de México

Israel and Hamas announced this Wednesday an agreement that provides for the release of 50 hostages held in the Gaza Strip in exchange of 150 Palestinians detained in the israeli prisonsand one truce four days in palestinian territory.

The agreement, mediated by Qatar, the United States and Egyptshould provide a respite for the population and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aidwhich has arrived in dribs and drabs in trucks from Egypt.

How will the release of hostages be carried out?

Detailing the details of the pact, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al Ansari explained to the AFP that “each day a number of hostages will be released (…) until reaching 50 on the fourth day“truce. There will be no Israeli military among them.

Israel released a list of 300 Palestinian prisoners who could be part of the list of hostages to be released: 33 women, 123 minor adolescents and 144 young people around 18 years old. Among them are 49 Hamas members.

The Israeli authorities explained that exchanges could continue If the truce is prolonged, until reaching a total of 100 hostages and 300 Palestinian prisoners.

On the list of Palestinian prisoners is Shrouq Dwayat, convicted of attempted murder in a knife attack in 2015.

On the other hand, Qatar indicated that the humanitarian pause will allow greater entry of “humanitarian and aid convoys, including fuel.”

Between 200 and 300 trucks will enter Gaza, eight of them carrying fuel and gas, according to Taher al Nunu, an official from Hamas.
