The NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Thursday accused the Military and paramilitary forces in conflict in Sudan for more than sixteen months of committing war crimesincluding summary executions, acts of torture and mutilation of corpses.
Since April 2023, the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fatah al Burhan, has been involved in a devastating war with the paramilitaries of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which caused dozens of deaths. thousands of deaths and caused the displacement of more than ten million people, according to the UN.
After analyzing images published on social networks, HRW reported that At least 40 people were executed summarily, and that 18 detainees suffered acts of torture and ill-treatment.
Nine of the 20 videos analyzed show the mutilation of at least eight corpsesmost of them at the hands of people in military uniform, although some are dressed in civilian clothes, the NGO adds.
“In all cases, the detainees do not appear to be armed or pose a threat to their captors, and in several cases they are tied up,” HRW said.
The military and paramilitaries in conflict “feel so unpunished that They were repeatedly recorded executing, torturing and dehumanizing detainees“and mutilating bodies,” said Mohamed Osman, HRW researcher on Sudan.
“These crimes must be investigated as war crimes and those responsible, including the commanders of these forces, must be held accountable,” he added.

HRW He called on the warring parties to “privately and publicly order an immediate cessation of these atrocities and to conduct effective investigations.”
