INAH delays the start of the second floor of the metropolitan boulevard in Zacatecas – El Sol de México

The lack of the “approval” of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and of the UNESCO ha delayed the beginning of the construction of the second floor of the metropolitan boulevard of Zacatecasreported the Secretary of Public Works, José Luis de la Peña Alonso

He Secretary trusts that both institutions will endorse the project later to conclude the heritage impact studywhich is currently being prepared by the construction company contracted to build the elevated road.

In his words, the heritage impact studywhich is one of the INAH requirements to give the green light to the work, will demonstrate that “There is no impact” on the city of Zacatecas as World Cultural Heritageas regards the urban landscape or “the visuals”.

He insisted that The viaduct is located outside the Zacatecas part of the city that more than 30 years ago was registered on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

At the beginning of August, the INAH announced that it had already established criteria for avoid that the construction of the second floor “violates the Exceptional Universal Value of the Historic Center.”

This statement was published after the UNESCOfollowing a diagnosis by its associated organization ICOMOS International, announced that the Roadworks could have “an irreversible visual impact on the landscape” and “in the good of World Heritage”.

When could construction of the second floor of the Zacatecas Metropolitan Boulevard begin?

The Secretary of Public Works announced that “in the next few days” the patrimonial impact study of the second floor would be completed, so he announced that Work on the second floor of the Zacatecas Metropolitan Boulevard will begin no later than October.

He mentioned that Construction will take 21 months and the first stage of mixed foundation with the formation of piles together with isolated footings. Subsequently, the prefabricated pieces that will be built on the outskirts of the city will be gradually assembled.

The aim is to provide a long-term solution to mobility problems. Although the situation is very complicated now, in the coming years, with the growth of the vehicle fleet, the problem will become more acute.
