Investment in NL could be affected by political crisis: Canacitra – El Sol de México

The political crisis in Nuevo León could generate political uncertainty and affect investment in the state such as that of the Tesla mega factory, warned the president of the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra), Esperanza Ortega Azar.

“Nuevo León does not deserve to be mired in a political crisis. Although there are insecurity and water problems, now there are political problems, and these types of actions can drive away investments like Tesla’s,” Ortega said at a press conference.

The president of Canacintra pointed out that the State Congress will have the power to appoint the replacement of Governor Samuel García, in accordance with what the Constitution indicates.

“What happened over the weekend is an unprecedented event that had not been seen in recent years,” added Ortega Azar. “We cannot let go or comply with what the Constitution mandates in each state.”

Likewise, he pointed out that Tesla could withdraw the construction of its factory if it sees that the rule of law is not complied with in Nuevo León.

“Although there is a high attraction of investments in Nuevo León, we believe that this crisis can drive these investments away. Tesla could even say: I will withdraw if it sees that the rule of law is not complied with,” he added.

In October, a rumor emerged that Elon Musk had regretted choosing Nuevo León to build his new factory. However, this was denied by Rohan Patel, vice president of public policy and business development at Tesla.

On the other hand, Ortega Azar pointed out that it is important that the Mexican industry forms an important part of the value chain and that the workforce is trained with new technologies.

“We demand that this technology be transferred to the Mexican industry. We need new entrepreneurs to be able to create their companies with this technology and boost the country’s industry,” he said.
