Jewish community rejects cover of Siempre magazine with effigy of Sheinbaum using Nazi symbols – El Sol de México

The Jewish community in Mexicoacademics, communicators and politicians expressed their rejection and indignation on the cover of the magazine Siempre, which in its most recent issue, 3678, shows a silhouette of Claudia Sheinbaum with a headband with swastikas, an icon of the Nazi regime. The candidate responded that the cover is infamous and thanked those who criticized the publication.

The publication was shared by the magazine’s director, Beatríz Pagés, through her X account, but was deleted after the wave of rejection it caused in networks and media.

“If this lady (Beatriz Pagés) went overboard with this magazine, with this cover of the magazine that has swastikas, which is the Nazi symbol… A thing in bad taste, because it should not be missed either,” Sheinbaun commented through a video in your X account.

“The Jewish community in Mexico rejects the use of Nazi symbols to refer to any candidate or person. Any comparison with the Nazi regime is condemnable and unacceptable,” says a statement signed by Elías Achar, president of the Central Committee of the Jewish Community in Mexico.

“Mrs. Beatriz Pagés and her editorial team crossed a unacceptable line in the times we live in. The cover is not only dishonest and offensive against Claudia Sheinbaum“But with the true victims of fascism, with their families and with the millions of people who have fought for memory and non-repetition,” says another statement signed by dozens of people, both supporters of the Fourth Transformation and its pre-candidate Claudia Sheinbaum. , as figures who are openly against it.

The statement demands the withdrawal of the publication and that Beatriz Pagés offer a public apology.

In response, the magazine Siempre published its number 3678 with a new cover that shows a white rose and an editorial signed by its director, in which she expresses admiration and respect for the Jewish community and points out that it was never the intention to hurt her with her cover.

“Our intention was – as the editorial states very clearly – to oppose the authoritarian regime that governs the country, which if consolidated in 2024, would put at risk the freedoms and human rights of all, even those who have made the cover a biased and interested interpretation.”
