Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harrispromised consequences for migrants who enter the United States illegally if he wins the election, during an interview on CNN.
“I think there should be consequences. We have laws that must be enforced and applied, that address and deal with the problem of people crossing our border illegally. “And there should be consequences,” she said, when asked about the immigration issue. “And as president, I would enforce our laws,” she added.
Previously, the Democrat’s campaign staff had already announced that she would toughen her stance on immigration, which has been one of the areas through which Donald Trump directs his attacks towards the candidate.
It is expected Harris’ more combative approach to immigration will be on display during her campaign across the country with his running mate Tim Walz, chosen in part for his appeal to voters in the US heartland.
The stance of prioritizing law enforcement is a shift from the campaign of Biden 2020when he promised a more humane approach to immigration than that of Trump. Biden gradually toughened his approach as illegal crossings increased.
