Mexico suspends negotiations with Ecuador for a Free Trade Agreement – El Sol de México

The government of Mexico suspended negotiations with Ecuador for a FTAsaid Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena at a press conference from the National Palace.

“We have suspended the trade relations with Ecuador in the sense that we were negotiating a Free Trade Agreement and those talks have been suspended,” said the head of the SRE.

In 2021, the former president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, began negotiations for an FTA with Mexico and planned to join the Pacific Alliance for the first half of 2022.

The Mexican government was also negotiating the implementation of its migrant aid in Ecuadorwhich consists of repatriating citizens of that country with financial aid of $110 per month for six months.

Another point of the immigration plan was that the social programs Youth Building the Future and Sowing Life would also be applied in the South American nation.

Alicia Barcena He emphasized that it will be the responsibility of other nations to define whether to continue diplomatic relations with Ecuador.
