New Russian bombing in Ukraine, five dead reported – El Sol de México

Kiev.- Russia fired dozens of missiles and drones against the Ukrainian capital, kyivand the northeastern city of Kharkiv on Tuesday, killing at least five civilians, injuring dozens and causing widespread damage, according to authorities.

Russia attacked from the air Ukraine for the third consecutive day, after the president Vladimir Putin warned on Monday that a Ukrainian airstrike against the Russian city of Belgorodin which Moscow said 25 civilians were killed, “would not go unpunished.”

After the attack, smoke billowed from the side of a high-rise apartment building, where, according to the mayor of KyivVitali Klitschko, a crater and scattered remains were left.

Klitschko reported that an elderly woman died in an ambulance after being injured and that 43 other people were injured. Emergency services said a body was also recovered on the eighth floor of the building.

“Russia will answer for every life taken,” said the president Volodymyr Zelensky on the Telegram messaging service.

The Russian army intensified airstrikes against Ukraine during the New Year period and on Friday it carried out the largest bombing of the almost two years of war against that country, in which at least 39 people died.

Klitschko He said there was damage to gas pipes and that in several districts of the capital there were electricity and water outages. Rescuers were putting out fires in several places.

Oleh Synehubov, Kharkiv regional governor, said that the central part of the city was attacked around 07:30 local time. One person died in the attack and 45 were injured, she added.

Ukrainian air defenses, reinforced by Kiev’s Western allies, shot down all 10 “Kinzhal” missiles fired in the latest attack, as well as 59 of 70 cruise missiles and three Kalibr cruise missiles, army chief Gen. Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kulebaasked Western allies to Kyiv to accelerate the supply of air defense systems, long-range missiles and combat drones.

Finally, Zelensky stated that Ukraine will respond to the latest Russian attack.
