At the conclusion of the work of the Permanent Commission of the LXV Legislature, the PRI senator recalled that Mexico made many mistakes at key moments in its history, “let it not be just another one, the beginning of the 21st century is in your hands.”
“Be truly plural and democratic, honour the words of your predecessors, democrats and fighters,” he insisted.
Paredes Rangel said that in his political life he participated, through the PRI, in two significant moments in the history of Mexico; in the 51st legislature of the Chamber of Deputies.
“The first federal legislature of political reform, when the democratic transition actually began, and now the participation in the 64th and 65th Legislatures of the Senate, in which, I fear, I witnessed the end of the democratic transition and the beginning of a new regime whose outcome I cannot determine.”
I want to believe and added, “that the hints of authoritarianism that cloud the horizon of the exercise of government of the first female president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, who has a career that would lead us to assume her democratic conviction, “Let them remain only premonitions of a storm and not let the Federalist Democratic Republic, with separation of powers, respect for plurality, freedom of expression and human rights, be derailed.”

Paredes Rangel said in Congress that “respect for the majority’s will does not mean ignoring the values and reasons of minorities.”
And he warned: “Overestimating the weight of majorities can lead to totalitarianism,” Therefore I ask for a republic for all, with justice for and by all.
