Strong winds in Monterrey leave fires and two dead – El Sol de México

Winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour in the metropolitan area of ​​Monterrey have left two people dead, 20 fires, fallen trees and cables, in addition to sectors without electricity and road chaos when traffic lights stop working.

According to the state Civil Protection report after noon in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood, a man was electrocuted when a power cable fell on his vehicle, he went down to remove it and when he touched it he received an electric shock.

It is being investigated whether the wind is responsible for the death of another man who fell from a wall of around 30 meters, in Potrero Chico Park, in the municipality of Hidalgo, about 40 kilometers north of Monterrey.

Likewise, fallen panoramas, poles, fallen trees and the collapse of a fence under construction of about 12 meters have been reported on Avenida Uno and Santa Margarita, in the La Purísima neighborhood.

In shopping plazas and large residential sectors, intermittent light failures are reported, such as in San Pedro Garza García, where some people were stuck inside a glass elevator at floor level.

The fires, a total of 20, were recorded in vacant lots, one in a factory and two in homes.

There is a count of 19 downed cables, 9 short circuits and 17 downed trees in different parts of the city.

In dozens of neighborhoods thousands of people were left without electricity, although the service is intermittent.

Erik Cavazos, director of Civil Protection of Nuevo León, said that the Fénix Brigade of Civil Protection of Nuevo León was distributed in the mountainous area to maintain surveillance in areas at high risk of forest fires.

Civil Protection Nuevo León reported that on Sunday the strong wind gusts will continue in the State, from 60 to 65 km/h in the Metropolitan Area and in the Mountainous Areas from 75 to 80 km/h.

The highest wind gusts are expected to be in the municipalities of Santiago, Galeana, lturbide, Rayones, Santa Catarina and Zaragoza.

Finally, Cavazos recommended not making bonfires and burning and not smoking in forests and grasslands.
