Students lead march against judicial reform during AMLO’s latest report – El Sol de México

Law students of the main ones universities Mexicans They called for a demonstration in defense of the Judiciary for this Sunday, September 1, within the framework of the president’s last report Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

The call, prepared by students from UNAM, ITAM, Ibero, La Salle, ITESO, UAEM, CIDE, ITESM and CIDE, invites students and young people from other institutions to join the demonstration to show the rejection of this sector to the president’s proposal to reform the judiciary which, if approved, would allow judges and magistrates to be elected by vote popular.

On Wednesday, thousands of students from the Law school and other universities marched against the reform, pointing out that such a proposal would be supporting political interests and ideological above the function jurisdictional.

In the first demonstration of the university community they stated that they do not consider the idea of ​​the election of judges by popular vote “constitutes an alternative that guarantees an improvement in the administration of justice in our country.”

In addition, it is expected that people will attend the demonstration this Sunday judges, magistrates and PJF workers as they announced on Friday in a statement:

“JUFED announces that it will join the march called for this Sunday, September 1st at the Angel of Independence, in Mexico City, by various student organizations (…) This organization has asked its 32 regional offices, which cover the entire country, to join the replicas of the marches in the states.”

The demonstrators are expected to wear white clothing and carry signs. The meeting is at 9:00 a.m. at the Angel of Independence, heading to the Senate of the Republic.
