Law students, workers of the judiciary and citizens They marched down Paseo de la Reforma against the judicial reform which is about to be discussed in Congress.
The students Law School from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Faculty of Higher Studies Acatlán, Ibero-American University, Pan-American University, La Salle, Libre de Derecho and Tec de Monterrey They spoke out against the reform of the Judicial Branch in front of the Angel of Independence to start the mobilization.
The contingent left the Angel of Independence heading to the Senate with slogans against judicial reform.
Workers from different jurisdictional bodies in the country organized themselves into contingents within the protest. Frida Mata, a member of the Twelfth Civil Court for eight years, attended the event in defense of the judicial career of workers, judges and magistrates.
“What motivates me to come is to inform people about the importance of a judicial career. We are not here fighting for salaries or benefits. This goes much further than that. We are here fighting for the judicial career to continue,” said the employee of the Judicial Branch.
The mobilization that brought together students and citizens was also attended by Beatriz Pageswho pointed out that the reform would compromise the independence of the Judiciary so that the President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorhave absolute control over the Powers of the Union.
“The reform of the Judicial Branch is the gateway to authoritarianism. President López Obrador designed this reform to have the most important Branch, or one of the most important, under his control, which is the Judicial Branch. It is about having judges, magistrates and ministers under his command so that his arbitrary and unconstitutional reforms, such as those that are part of Plan C, are approved and there are no obstacles or controls to prevent them,” declared Beatriz Pagés.
Lorenzo Cordova and Daisy Zavala also were present at the march that I divert the “Muévete en bici” bicycle path to the side lanes of Paseo de la Reforma to make way for the Thousands of protesters marched towards the Senate of the Republic.
Córdova simply expressed his solidarity with the demands of the students, who he says are the protagonists of the protest this Sunday in defense of the judiciary.
