Tape A bad actor exposes abuse in the entertainment industry – El Sol de México

The experience that the actress lived Maria Scheneider on the filming set of “The last Tango in Paris” was the trigger that led the director Jorge Cuchí to write the script for “A bad actor”her second feature film, in which she explores the abuse and aggression experienced in the entertainment industry.

It all came about after listening to an interview in which Schneider She reported that she was raped during a scene in the film she directed Bernardo Bertolucci, in which the actor participated Marlon Brando.

“She stated that, when they did the butter scene, she felt violated, that caught my attention, the way she said it and then I understood where what she says is like a rape was coming from, which was a sexual abuse because there was inappropriate touching by Marlon when he spread butter on her private parts and they did not ask for her consent,” he said. Cuchi in interview.

“Then I saw an interview with the director about the event and he said that although he felt kind of bad about what they had done to this girl (19 years old at the time), what happened was that the actor and he got together. I agreed not to tell her, because they wanted her to act out the indignation and rage not like an actress, but like a real person. “If this man gave that interview right now, he would already be in jail because it is a confession of a crime,” added the filmmaker.

It was then that she imagined a current scenario, where an actress would express her disagreement at the moment, even standing firm in denouncing the person who raped her during the production of a scene. However, achieving a balance on the issue, without it being misrepresented, was the main challenge.

“A Bad Actor” tells the story of “Sandra Navarro”a young actress who maintains good communication with her fellow actor “Daniel Zavala”. However, while filming a scene, Daniel attacks Sandra and she does not remain silent.

“The whole time I was thinking about having a scale, every time I had an argument I showed a counter-argument so that it would be a clash of opinions, of ways of approaching the topic.

“I have the victim and I have two female characters, which is very real, something I see is that they are very supportive and the moment something happens, they immediately believe the girl and hug her and, at the same time At the same time, I have characters who come from the world of formal law (lawyers) who do their job and try to listen to what those involved say, but we also have a character who is ‘Daniel’ who says that this woman is lying.” , said the scriptwriter.

Throughout the story, what happened is broken down, the perspectives of each of those involved are shown, their reactions, as well as the protocols that are followed during filming to keep everything “controlled.” But the plot takes a turn when technology becomes present; This may be a reason for the viewer to weigh the two situations presented or lean towards one.

“You decide whether or not you downplay the importance of each situation, when I write something I write it as if I were a spectator, I like to be challenged and in my emotional experience, when I was writing it, I did want you to have that risk so that one As a viewer make your own decision.

“For me it didn’t diminish (importance) because I know that they are two different things and I can think two bad things about the two events or one positive and one bad, but that is a decision for each person,” the director emphasized.
