“We want to ask them to continue the shelter for environmental well-being. This is the first administration that has been concerned about such a delicate issue that had been abandoned. There are many people who are supporting us so that the shelter can continue,” said Rosales.
Since Monday, he said, participants and winemakers requested a meeting with the official to ask about the fate of the hostelsince for two and a half years many of them have donated in kind, rescued abandoned and injured dogs and reported the illegal sale of puppies.
“Participants and permit holders are concerned. They have come to see what the situation is. hostelhow it will be managed, and see how they can support so that this program continues,” he said.
Rosales reported that since the launch of this hostelThe administration contributed spaces to shelter the animals, consisting of a plot of land with pet houses, a garden for them to go out for walks, and areas for medical care.
However, the place has survived through donations from animal rights associations, Tenants and Participantsas well as support from the same officials who work in the administration.
From 2021 to date, the shelter has received 1,514 dogs and catsof which 1,440 have been adopted through promotion within and outside the CEDA and with the support of various animal rights associations.
According to Rosales, five percent of admissions represent deaths of dogs and cats, because they arrive in poor condition due to illness or accidents.
In addition, he explained, 80 percent of the admissions are from the internal population, that is, those who are inside the ships, while the rest are dogs and cats found on roads near the Power Plant.
“We have worked with the animals that have arrived and that have been born here. I have seen things here that I never imagined seeing, injured animals, animals that homeless people used to fight and drugged them, and we have rehabilitated them and then found them a home,” explained Karla Ramírez, a veterinarian at the project.
Ramírez explained that they separate dogs and cats into those that can be adopted and those that cannot; however, the latter are medically treated, sterilized, and a ring is placed on their ear to identify them and know that they are dogs who already have a record. Then these animals are returned to the ships when the wine merchants, porters and tenants leave. commit to caring for and feeding them.
“We have population dogs that know how to walk within the Centralwho have been here for many years, many of these dogs are adopted by someone in a priority situation or a winery owner takes care of them. (…) And all the dogs that we see that are suitable for adoption They stay with us and those who don’t come back,” he explained.

“I found Nabilois a dog that was thrown into the dumpster, We raised him and now he is a happy animal. and happy. I also have a cat that I brought from here. As tenants, we need to have responsible control,” he explained.
