Tigres will play the semifinal against Pumas in Ciudad Universitaria without Gignac – El Sol de México

Tigres traveled to Mexico City this Wednesday to face Pumas in the first leg semi-final of Apertura 2023. What caught the most attention about this transfer was the absence of André-Pierre Gignac, who is out for this Thursday’s match in University City.

The French striker was present at the cats’ morning training session at the Volcano; However, he left at the end of practice.

The team led by Robert Dante Siboldi closed its preparation for the duel against the Auriazules by fine-tuning the last details on the field before traveling to the Mexican capital.

At the moment the club has informed him why the 38-year-old Frenchman will be in the Tigres squad for this match, although everything points to a muscle injury. For his return, his future is uncertain, since everything will depend on his progress in this injury and how Siboldi sees him hours before the game.

Remember that Bomboro scored a double last Sunday in the second leg of the Quarterfinals against Puebla, which helped them get to the ante room of the final. After these actions, Robert Dante Siboldi removed Gignac from the field of play, although he assured that he only went to take care of the physical issue and not because of an injury in that match.

This is news that gives relief to Antonio Mohamed and his pupils, since Pumas is the team to which André-Pierre has scored the most goals since his arrival in Mexico. Over 8 years, the European attacker has scored against them 17 times, including the regular phase and Liguilla.

Gignac has appeared three times in the quarterfinals and two more times in the final when they face the university students. Now for this semi-final they will have to stay with the desire to send the ball into the nets, at least during the first leg at the Olimpico Universitario this Thursday.
