CANCUN. Taxi drivers and tourist transporters demonstrated This Saturday with a caravan on a whirlwind in rejection of Uber’s platform service At the airports, protests affected roads and access to the Cancun International Airport.
At around 11:00 a.m., some 200 transporters paraded in their vehicles at a slow pace along the 13 kilometers of Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard until they reached the air terminal in protest and rejection of the operation of the Uber platform, which they consider illegal since it does not have the concession or the corresponding federal permits that they require.
The transporters’ protest caused delays for tourists who had flights back to their places of origin from Cancun airport.
The same incident occurred on Friday, although on a larger scale, when taxi drivers from Tulum blocked federal highway 307, from Tulum to Akumal, heading to Cancun, causing thousands of tourists to miss their flights.
The protest by the Tulum taxi drivers was to demand the release of their leader Eliazar Sagrero, who was arrested last Thursday by the ministerial police accused of multiple homicide against four people whose identity is reserved.

Both protests, on Friday and today by taxi drivers and tourist transporters, affected tourist activity and generated discontent among thousands of visitors who missed their flights, since, in some cases, they had to stay an extra day at their destination, which represents new unforeseen expenses during their vacations.
