UNAM Law School students march in protest against judicial reform – El Sol de México

Nearly 2,500 peoplebetween students and teachers, march in University City in protest against the judicial reform promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and that has raised alarm among thebusinessmen, governments of other countries and opposition politicians.

The protesters, who are heading to the headquarters of the Judicial Council of the Federation located in the cPicacho-Ajusco highwayhave expressed concern as they believe that after the approval of the judicial reform their careers will disappear.

“UNAM-CJF UNITED!”; “In defense of the judiciary”; “The judiciary will not fall” and “Without the judiciary there is no rule of law. Of the 3 powers, this one defends you”“, are some of the slogans that can be read on the banners.

The protests against the reform of the Judicial Branch began last Monday, August 19. So far, SCJN workers, lawyers, judges and magistrates have joined in and have suspended work in protest against the progress of this initiative.

In addition, President López Obrador’s government has “paused” relations with the Canadian ambassador, Graeme C. Clark and Ken Salazar, United States Ambassador to Mexicoafter they pointed out that the reform to the Judicial Branch could lead to the infiltration of drug trafficking and endanger trade relations between the two countries.
