Workers at the Olmeca refinery, located in Dos Bocas, Paraíso, experienced alarming minutes after a hydrogen leak was recorded in the turbogenerator area during the coke production process.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, August 30, 2024, after, according to what was reported to El Heraldo de Tabasco by workers inside the oil complex, a pressure line transporting coke vapor, also known as tar or asphalt, broke, causing the leak.
This breakage caused the passage of pressurized liquid nitrogen lines, but the situation did not escalate as it was controlled, with no reports of injuries or deaths. In several videos posted on social media by the workers themselves, the emission of a dense cloud of smoke from the line can be seen, as well as the leak coming from the turbogenerator area.
Similarly, in another clip, a hydrochloric acid leak can be seen in the water pretreatment plant (PPA), which is used to treat the water used in various operations at the oil complex.
