Starting this year, the winning Mexican shorts of the Shorts Festival Mexico in the category of Best Fiction, Animation, Documentary and Neomexwill be safeguarded by the UNAM Film Library for its preservation, study, film memory and legacy for future generations, reported Hugo Villa Smythe, general director of the UNAM Film Library.
“This will be a way of rewarding Mexican-made short films and will encourage new filmmakers to compete in festivals; their work will be stored and available to the public upon request,” said the director.
Villa Smythe was present at the press conference to announce the 19th edition of Shorts Mexico. International Short Film Festivalwhich will take place from September 1 to 30. More than a thousand short films from 50 countries will be exhibited at the competition.
Jorge Magaña, director of Shorts Mexiconoted that the inauguration in the National Film Libraryit will be with the premiere of the short film “Remember when we were in love”, the debut film by Noé Hernández and starring Alberto Estrella, on the evening of Monday, September 2.
On September 3 and 4, the following events will take place: Tributes to Monica del Carmen and Noe Hernandez; the program includes the re-release of short film animation “The Hero” by Carlos Carrera.

“The short film is the origin of the movies. The fact that the short film is a production that takes less time to complete does not detract from the fact that there is a good script with quality content, finding a good cast, director and producer or producers,” said Alberto Estrella.
Channels 22 and Eleven will be the window to exhibit the materials of this edition. The competition includes 13 national and international sections.
