A Mexican judge postponed until February 13 the decision on the possible indefinite suspension of the bullfights in the Plaza México, the largest bullfighting venue in the world, after a protection of animal activists.

According to judicial agreements published this Thursday, the head of the Fifth Court in administrative matters of Mexico City, Sandra de Jesús Zúñiga, postponed her decision, scheduled for Wednesday, because the Ministry of Agriculture and the Benito Juárez Mayor’s Office had not received the notifications from the case.

“Consequently, in order not to leave the parties in a state of defenselessness, the incidental hearing scheduled for this date is postponed,” establishes file 152/2024.

The incidental hearing was scheduled for Wednesday after an injunction filed by the group ‘All for the Love of Bulls‘ for suspend bullfighting shows in the Benito Juárez Mayor’s Office, the internal political demarcation of Mexico City where the Plaza Mexico.

The judge had granted a provisional suspension to avoid bullfighting in Plaza Méxicobut on February 2, a collegiate court revoked this precautionary measure until, at least, the protection is resolved definitively.

The argument was that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) had already ruled on December 6, 2023, when it reactivated the bullfights after a year and a half of being suspended in the Plaza Mexico.
