Sedena deploys security in municipalities of Zacatecas – El Sol de México

The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) announced the deployment of 800 security personnel in the municipalities of Fresnillo, Villanueva, Valparaiso, Guadalupe and Zacatecas “in order to continue with the materialization of the Peace and Security Strategy in the state of Zacatecas.”

The statement from the armed forces was released less than a day after the murder of the Fresnillo city council official was recorded and political relative of Ricardo Monreal, Juan Pérez Guardado; as well as two businessmen from Sombrerete, in various facts confirmed already during Wednesday night.

The Sedena specified that The arrival to the state of the elements will be on February 9 “which add to the efforts being made by elements of the Mexican Army, National Guard and State Public Security Secretariat, in order to provide an environment of tranquility.”

In the central region of the state, made up of the municipalities of Guadalupe and Zacatecas, where Part of the military reinforcement will be carried out, cells of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) have been dismantled at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024.

In Villanueva, adjacent to the state of Aguascalientes, confrontations between said criminal organization and the Sinaloa Cartel have taken place in recent months.. To this struggle, authorities attributed the kidnapping and murder of six young people, which occurred in said municipality last September.

The Sedena statement concludes by pointing out that The deployment of elements in said municipalities seeks to strengthen the rule of law, reduce violence rates and “improve the image of this federal entity.”
