For several months, the Colombian singer Shakira faced a tough and long case about tax evasion in the city of Barcelona, in which some 14.5 million euros (15.8 million dollars), between 2012 and 2014, which the artist owed to the Ministry of Finance of said country.
On this November 20, 2023 and in the middle of the sixth Barcelona Hearing, Shakira has accepted her charges for fraud to continue with the agreement that her defense had obtained with the Prosecutor’s Office, which requested eight years and two months in prison, but with a ‘Yeah‘ and a ‘Thank you‘, the Colombian artist accepted her charges.
At 10:00 am, Spanish time, after several weeks of negotiations and accepting her charges, the Colombian agreed to a three-year prison sentence that was replaced by a million-dollar fine of 7.3 million euros (7.8 million dollars) to repair the damage caused to the Prosecutor’s Office and its entire case. In addition, said agreement also entails a payment of other 432 thousand euros (470 thousand dollars), all so that the singer does not have to be imprisoned.
