INE will clarify doubts of people excluded from voting from abroad – El Sol de México

The National Electoral Institute (INE) will clarify the doubts of the almost 40 thousand Mexican people who live abroad who were excluded from the Nominal List of Voters Resident Abroad (LNERE).

Mexicans residing in other countries complained on social networks after the INE notified them of the cancellation of their registration even though it had already been validated.

Those who reported their exclusion from the nominal list of voters shared the information letter sent to them by the INE. The document states that it is due to inconsistencies in the documentation. According to the same institute, the problems occurred in 39,724 records.

In 18,203 cases, the problem was due to irregularities in the signatures, 12,574 more incidents were due to non-compliance with requirements. The records with “multiple irregularities” were 8,086 cases, and with 861 records there were problems with proof of address.

The electoral body reported that affected people may contact the official channels of the institute, telephone and email, to clarify the situation of their registration on a case-by-case basis.

INE staff will respond to requests for clarification to analyze each case, provide a response to the notification received and provide guidance, where appropriate, on the procedure to follow so that it can be registered. the institute specified.

The telephone numbers to clarify doubts are the INETEL line 1 (866) 986 8306 from the United States, or +52 (55) 5481 9897 from other countries. The email vote.extranjero@ine.mx is also enabled and interested parties must share their full name and the request tracking folio for their registration on the nominal list.

According to the Nominal List of Voters Resident Abroad, as of March 27, there are 675,127 Mexican people abroad who have the right to vote in the next elections. Of them, 226,661 registered to participate in the elections, the INE reported at the beginning of April.

The presidential standard bearer of Fuerza y Corazón por México (PRI, PAN and PRD), Xóchitl Gálvez criticized the INE for excluding almost 40 thousand people from the voting list. Despite the institute’s clarifications, the candidate considered that the excluded voters did “meet the requirements to be able to vote and now they are notified that they were not registered.”

Gálvez Ruiz urgently demanded a detailed report with the truth and propose solutions to guarantee the right to vote for Mexicans living abroad; “It is a lack of respect for the participation in the electoral process of our migrant brothers,” he said.
