For his part, the head of the North American Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE)Roberto Velasco, pointed out that during this Wednesday’s hearing, our country’s position of rejection weighed due to the impact it will generate on the Mexican community.

Through social networks, the official also pointed out that the representative of the Texas government recognized the seriousness of the law, which allows state and local police to make arrests and deportations of any person “suspected” of having crossed illegally into that state.

“Mexico’s position on the impact for our community and on the bilateral relationship weighed, as well as the firm rejection of deportations from Texas.”

In this sense, the Foreign Ministry added that Mexico’s position is to continue rejecting any measure that allows state or local authorities to carry out immigration control tasks, and noted that laws such as SB4 generate “international frictions, are discriminatory and violate human rights.” .

Last week, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a resolution that keeps the law temporarily frozen, until the justice of that country defines whether or not it violates the US Constitution, as Joe Biden’s government argues.

The law, which had already been blocked in February by a federal judge, was enacted in December by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and creates the crime of “illegal entry” into Texas territory and empowers local police and judges to detain, imprison and deport foreigners on the sole suspicion that they are immigrants without documents and contemplates penalties for them of up to 20 years in prison.
