Mexican peso advances; exchange rate breaks the barrier of 17 pesos per dollar since September – El Sol de México

The Mexican peso appreciated on Friday and broke the barrier of 17 units for the first time since late September, in the face of a global weakening of the dollar while investors await the release of a key indicator of inflation in the United States.

The peso was trading at 16.9458 units, with a gain of 0.45 percent compared to the 17.0220 per dollar of the Reuters reference price on Thursday.

The U.S. Commerce Department is expected later to release personal income and spending (PCE) figures, an important inflation benchmark that could shape expectations for how quickly interest rates would fall next year.
