Mexican woman held by Hamas in Gaza Strip released – El Sol de México

A Mexican woman held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip was released this Thursday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

The Mexican Foreign Ministry thanked the Qatari government for its efforts to evacuate Mexican citizens and mediate for the release of prisoners of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, during the conflict with Israel.

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alicia Bárcena, held a phone call with her Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh al Khulaifi, according to a statement from the government agency.

During the call, they discussed the need to maintain a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and also establishing that the two-state solution is the only path to achieving peace in the region.

During seven days of truce, Hamas has freed around 100 Israeli and foreign hostages, mainly Thais. For now, the situation of the two Mexicans captured by the Islamists since October 7, when they began an offensive in Israeli territory, is unknown.
