NYT sues OpenAI and Microsoft for violating copyright – El Sol de México

The newspaper The New York Times sued on Wednesday OpenAI and Microsoftaccusing them of using millions of newspaper articles without permission to help train technologies artificial intelligence.

The Times claims that it is the first great means of American communication that demands OpenAI and Microsoftcreators of ChatGPT and other AI platforms, due to copyright issues.

According to the lawsuit filed in federal court in Manhattan“the defendants seek to take advantage of the Times’ enormous investment in its journalism by using it to create substitute products without permission or payment.”

The Times does not claim a specific amount for damages, but considers that OpenAI and Microsoft have caused “billions of dollars” in damages by illegally copying and using their works.
