Only 1.4% of travelers used the AIFA – El Sol de México

Despite being one of the flagship works of this government, the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) It was only used by 1.4 percent of all air passengers in our country between January and November, according to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC). The organization’s statistics indicate that in said period, the AIFA moved around two million 353 thousand national and international travelers, out of a total of 169 million 887 thousand people who used some airport in Mexico.

After the figure reported by the Agency, the AIFA was positioned as the tenth airport with the highest flow of passengers in Mexico, of which at least 90 percent were national or domestic at the end of November.

To date, in this terminal located in the State of Mexico the national airlines Aeroméxico, VivaAerobus, Volaris and Magnicharters, as well as theforeign companies Copa Airlines, Arajet and Conviasa.

According to specialists, although there are competitive rates among these companies, the little connectivity or scarcity of roads to reach the AIFA are some of the factors that influence the low flow of passengers.


In that sense, the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) was positioned as the most used point in the country by moving 44 million 118.6 thousand tourists in 11 months of 2023, equivalent to 26 percent of all air users.

It was followed by the Cancun airport, with 29 million 729 thousand passengersand in third place was the one from Guadalajara, which transported 16 million 119 thousand users until the end of November 2023.

According to official data from the AFACIn this period, more than 149,236 tons of cargo were moved, which represented 14 percent of all merchandise moved by air in the country, and of which only 146,000 tons were international cargo. It is noteworthy that in the middle of the year, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador published a decree to move the cargo operations of the AICM to the AIFAwith which 18 cargo companies moved their activities to this terminal.

The measure was aimed at streamlining the flow of transport at the AICM and guarantee the physical security of both operators and users in general.
