Trial against anti-immigrant law resumes this Wednesday – El Sol de México

Today the legal discussion of the Texas anti-immigrant law SB4considered xenophobic by Mexico and which was challenged by the United States federal government and North American civil organizations.

The Mexican ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma, said that There are nearly 10 million Mexicans living in Texas who are already being affected by SB4despite not being approved.

This law allows local police detain and deport without a court order to any person suspected of being a foreigner without immigration documents.

A week ago, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit temporarily froze the SB4 law until it is resolved whether or not it violates the US Constitution, as the US president himself, Joe Biden, argued at the time.

At the hearing, scheduled today, April 3, it will be evaluated whether a federal judge acted legally when blocking the entry into force of the anti-immigrant law in February. The parties will present their arguments to the same three-judge panel that blocked it last week.

Esteban Moctezuma described Law SB4 as discriminatory and emphasized that the contributions of Mexicans in the United States are key to economic development in the neighboring country.

“This law violates the civil and constitutional rights to which any person in the United States is entitled, regardless of their immigration status. It is anti-immigrant and discriminatory. Mexico has initiated actions to defend its rights and we will continue to provide legal and human assistance and protection to each and every Mexican so that they are treated with dignity and respect,” said the Mexican ambassador in a video broadcast on social networks.

The Texas SB4 Law will have his arguments heard in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Since Monday, personnel from the National Migration Institute (INM) have been carrying out an operation in Ciudad Juárez to prevent foreigners from crossing into the United States, which yesterday caused an outbreak of anger between foreigners and INM personnel.
