AMLO sends proposal so that freight trains can offer passenger transportation – El Sol de México

He President Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented a proposed decree so that the freight train dealers can offer Passenger transport service in the country.

The initiative, presented this Thursday before the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement (Conamer)highlighted that initially the opening of seven routes and that they should preferably consider the stations that were in operation before 1995.

In case the current dealers do not present a viable proposal in terms of investment, time of construction, modernization of the ways or are simply not interested, the federal government will grant these titles to the Secretariats of National Defense (Sedena) and Navy (Semar) or, where appropriate, to individuals who express their interest in the project.

“The concessionaires of the public freight rail transport service They will be the first to be invited to present the projects for the implementation of the passenger rail servicewithin its general routes of railway communication that were granted to them in concession,” reads the draft decree.

According to the proposal of chief executivewith this decree it also seeks to declare as a “priority area for national development” the provision of public rail transport service of passengers in the Mexican Railway System.

The eventual regulation of freight and passenger rail serviceas well as the implementation of this decreewill be in charge of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) and of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency.

What will be the passenger routes?

According to the document presented in the Conamerthese will be the routes for the train passenger transportation service:

1.- Mexico–Veracruz–Coatzacoalcos Train

2.- AIFA–Pachuca Interurban Train

3.- Mexico–Querétaro–León–Aguascalientes Train

4.- Manzanillo–Colima–Guadalajara–Irapuato Train

5.- Mexico–San Luis Potosí–Monterrey–Nuevo Laredo

6.- Mexico–Querétaro–Guadalajara–Tepic–Mazatlán–Nogales

7.- Aguascalientes–Chihuahua–Ciudad Juárez

The decree will come into force from the day following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). At the beginning of the month, the President López Obrador He expressed his interest in seeing the light of day on November 20.
