INE denies Xóchitl Gálvez; He did invite the OAS to observe elections in Mexico – El Sol de México

The National Electoral Institute (INE) did invite the Organization of American States (OAS) to observe the June 2 election and the international organization accepted, according to an official letter signed by Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS, on July 31, 2023.

The above contradicts what was said by Xóchitl Gálvez, presidential candidate of the PAN-PRI-PRD, who accused on social networks that the INE had not requested electoral observation from the OAS, this after his meeting with Luis Almagro in Washington DC, capital of the United States.

“The OAS would have the honor of deploying an EOM (Electoral Accompaniment Mission) in Mexico. The deployment of said Mission will be subject to the receipt of the necessary resources to carry it out,” reads the letter sent by Luis Almagro to the president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei.

In his meeting, Xóchitl Gálvez justified his request for observation in the insecurity that exists in the country and in the constant intervention of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the electoral process.

“We have requested that the OAS participate in the elections before, during and after. In fact, he told us that he has not yet received an invitation from the INE, which we hope will be done soon so that they can prepare and observe,” he said.

In the response he sent to Guadalupe Taddei, Luis Almagro expressed the commitment of the OAS “to strengthening electoral processes in the Americas, through its observation and technical cooperation efforts. In this context, it will be a pleasure for the OAS to continue working with an institution like the National Electoral Institute of Mexico.”
