MC withdraws complaint to force the media to cover Álvarez Máynez – El Sol de México

Yesterday, the National Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry (CIRT) reported that on April 30, hundreds of dealerships were notified over a Special Sanctioning Procedure (PES) initiated against them by MC, in which the party requested precautionary measures consisting of “the concessionaires, their social media accounts and internet pages provide coverage to the MC party and its candidate”.

At a press conference on the vote of Mexicans abroad, the counselor said that the orange party presented the withdrawal before the Technical Unit for Electoral Litigation (UTCE) and it is analyzing the appeal.

The CIRT accused yesterday that the legal appeal by Movimiento Ciudadano is an attack on freedom of expression; However, the counselor assured that the INE cannot force them to cover Álvarez Máynez but only recommend that their coverage be equitable for the three candidates.

Counselor Castillo invited the concessionaires to remain calm and wait for the complaint to be processed, as he assured that the Special Sanctioning Procedure is intended restrict freedom of expression or dictate any editorial line.

“My invitation to the concessionaires is to be calm, this is going to be processed as any complaint is processed and this will never have any intention or purpose from the National Electoral Institute (…) to dictate an editorial line in any sense, this is part of freedom of expression,” he asserted.
