The MIKTA bloc of countries condemns Ecuador’s assault on the Mexican Embassy – El Sol de México

Mexico City.- The member countries of the MIKTA group, made up of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia, This Friday they expressed their “deepest concern” and solidarity for the raid by the Ecuadorian police on the Mexican Embassy in Quito that occurred a week ago.

In a joint statement, shared this Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of Mexicothe group of nations asserted that this event establishes “a serious precedent of undermining” the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

“In particular, the principle of inviolability of diplomatic facilities and their personnel,” he emphasized.

Likewise, they expressed their solidarity with the Mexican Government and called for “full respect for international law” as well as to refrain from any unilateral action that could threaten cordial relations between countries and to resolve all differences through “peaceful means.”

The assault on the Mexican Embassy in Ecuador and the breaking of diplomatic relations marks one week this Friday.

These events were already condemned internationally and led the Mexican Government to present a complaint to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) this Thursday and to ask the United Nations to suspend Ecuador as a member of the organization.

While next Tuesday there will be an extraordinary meeting with leaders who make up the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) in which the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will ask that they join Mexico’s claim before the ICJ.

Ecuador raided the Mexican Embassy in Quito and attacked diplomatic personnel to forcibly take away former Ecuadorian vice president Jorge Glas (2013-2017), sheltered in the premises since December while facing criminal proceedings for corruption.
