President Andrés Manuel López Obradorassured this Thursday that there will be no January cost no tax increase by 2024 and added that already reestablished the Package Against Inflation and Famine (Pacic) that launched its government in May of last year, in conjunction with department stores.
When questioned in his morning conference about whether he would maintain his anti-inflationary policyeven though the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) has been increased, the president said that:
“It is the same policy, there will be no tax increases in real termsthere is no increase in the price of gasoline, diesel, or electricity. We are going to continue with the anti-inflationary program. The mechanism that was agreed upon with the department stores has already been restored so that the prices of the 24 products in the basic basket are maintained,” the president highlighted.
He recalled that when the war between Russia and Ukraine began, inflation skyrocketed globally and in Mexico.The price of the 24 products in the basic basket was set at 1,039 pesosand if we see the current prices they are down,” he indicated.
“We have to thank those who participate in this program, the commercial chains: Chedraui, Walmart, Soriana and others,” he said.
“That has helped us a lot and also having control of the price of gasoline,” highlighted the federal president.

It is noteworthy that in the middle of this month, Francisco Cervantes Díaz, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), confirmed that the Package Against Inflation and High Costs (Pacic) will continue during the first half of 2024, the last year of Andrés Manuel’s government.
