New York Fashion Week begins with more than 70 catwalks – El Sol de México

The parade season in the city of skyscrapers, NYalready started this Friday with the presence of the Japanese firm Tadashi Shoji, Christian Siriano and Helmut Lang and the minimalist Helmut Lang and his acclaimed creative Peter Do, who will kick things off.

The calendar that covers until next Wednesday, February 14, there are more than 70 signaturesamong which the veterans stand out Tommy Hilfiger and Carolina Herrera, other groundbreaking and younger artists such as LaQuan Smith and The Blonds, with the aim of showing the best of “made in the USA” talent, as well as designer Thom Browne, president of the CFDA since last year, whose eponymous firm will be in charge of closing this edition.

In Fashion Week, names always come and go: among the novelties, there are the debut of Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Callas or Jane Wade; the returns of Monse, Libertine or Lafayette 148; and the absence of Palomo Spain or Ralph Lauren, who were present in the last edition.

The Spanish brand Delpozo also returns to New York, but not with a fashion show, as it used to until 2017, but with reduced presentations for the retail sector with its new directors, coinciding with the announced relaunch of its business, according to a spokeswoman.

The fashion event has gone from being a centralized event, based in Bryant Park (1993-2009), Lincoln Center (2010-2015) and Spring Studios in Soho, to have diverse locations and widely dispersed dates according to the needs of each designer and brand.

In recent years, the parades have had spectacular and unexpected settings such as the public library, the top of the Empire State Building, the stock exchange floor or the historic Armory hall. This year opens a new headquarters after months of speculation: the Starrett-Lehigh Building, a former industrial building in the Chelsea neighborhood full of “lofts” where many parades have been called.

In this issue, WME Fashion came together to create its first campaign, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of New York City, celebrating fashion as an individual and collective experience through the lens of photographer Sam Hellmann.

IMG Chloé Vero models, Sara Arabzadeh, Shantae Leslie and Xue Huizi star in the campaign’s audiovisual.

Along with New York Fashion Week, events are held such as the Latin American Designers Platform (FDLA), where the Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Lennox will debut his Durini brand, or the Arts Hearts Fashion catwalk, with eye-catching shows like Anthony’s. Blonde, with fashion for dogs and their owners.

The emerging brands that participate will present their collections at streaming format or with digital catalogues, a trend that is here to stay after the pandemic, and which brands such as Maisie Wilen or Hervé Leger opt for.
